IUD stands for Intrauterine Device. They prevent pregnancy by changing the way sperm cells move so they can’t reach an egg. IUDs are 99% effective at preventing pregnancy and they can last from 3-10 years depending on the type of IUD. A great thing about IUDs is they are not permanent and once removed a person can get pregnant almost right away.

 

IUD insertion can be uncomfortable, and feels like strong period cramps. We offer optional sedation to help with discomfort during the procedure. 

 

To get an IUD we will schedule an initial consultation, to inform the patient, and decide which IUD will be the best option. Then we order the IUD through a patient’s insurance and wait for it to arrive, which can take up to two weeks. If a patient doesn’t have insurance they can apply for funding through Lilith Fund. After the IUD arrives we will schedule an appointment for the IUD insertion.
